Alive and living.

Four years ago this blog started out as a personal space on the internet for my own thoughts and experiences and even though I was not very consistent, I blogged once in a while, but wrote in my journal almost on a daily basis. Since being married I have blogged a total of 3 times and journaled not too much more than that. I've at least tried to get back in to writing in my journal, but it's proved to be a hard habit to jump right back into when it's been so long!

The truth is I've just been too busy living. It's been a busy couple of years! Marriage was an adjustment, working full time after college was an adjustment, and all the life happenings in between have been keeping us on our toes!

I've finally decided to revisit the blog and be better at recording our life as we are living it. So we'll see how that goes!

We moved to San Angelo Texas in July with 3 weeks notice and that was definitely a lovely welcome to military life. It was a tough first month - none of our things had been moved yet. We slept on an air mattress and sat on camp chairs for a whole month before any of our things arrived, and when then did, pretty much everything was significantly damaged. That was less than wonderful. Eventually we got everything sorted out and set up our home and brought home our fur-baby and settled in.

If you look up San Angelo on the map you'll see that it's in the middle of nowhere in West Texas. Ever watch Friday Night Lights? That's in West Texas. About 3 hours from everywhere. Having lived here a few months already we've discovered the hidden gems in the area and have really enjoyed being here! One of the most awesome things we've had the chance to do is go to a high school football game. Now, going to a high school football game when you're not from the area would usually be pretty lame, but there is a reason that a movie and a great TV series have been made based on west Texas high school football - it is crazy! We went to the last regular season home game for the local high school against their big rivals and they sold more than 15,000 tickets. Insanity. And they won which made it even more incredible! It was one of the funnest experiences we've had here.

Blurry, but happy.

Friday Night Lights - Homecoming for Central High School.

I've also been able to get involved in a choir at the local university. We just put on our Holiday Concert right before Thanksgiving and it was a wonderful thing to be part of as well. I've had more opportunities to sing here than I did in Cache Valley the last year we lived there! I've also been working as an instructional aide at a local elementary school and I love the people I work with. It has truly been a blessing to not only fill up my time while we've been living here, but to really enjoy the people I associate with on a day to day basis! I will sincerely miss them when we leave.

We weren't sure what to expect when we moved to San Angelo, but we've really enjoyed our time here and it's mostly due to the people we've met and the friends we've made! We were blessed to know another couple that came from USU the same time we did to ease the transition. It's also been a  lot of fun to spend time with my brother and his family who live in Austin. We've made great friends from church and have loved getting to know the other military families and couples. It will be bittersweet to leave this ward and our friends in San Angelo, but the church is small and the Air Force is much smaller so I'm sure paths will cross again!

So before we move (again) in February we will be visiting our families over Christmas and when we get back we'll only have 6 more weekends for Texas adventures!

Feel free to make suggestions to add to our Texas Bucket list.

Paris, je t'aime

A very, very small part of the gardens at Versailles.
Man oh man, has life been crazy busy. July was a crazy busy month with 2 weddings, some camping, starting a new full-time job, and visiting more family... it's life and it's great.

I'll never fully catch up posting pictures of our trip. We literally took HUNDREDS of pictures. These are mostly from Versailles, Notre Dame, and the Opera House.
We went looking for the Phantom and the Hunchback in the same day.
I'm still reliving it just by looking through these... Paris is for lovers, my friends.

You'll notice we got really good at taking selfies. #selfienation

Climbing to the top of the Notre Dame calls for duck lips and bug-eyes.

We never did find Quasimodo. But we climbed to the very top and saw the bells and gargoyles.

After a few days in Paris, we went up to Normandy. What an incredible place that was.
We stayed in the darling little town of Bayeux and basically had a private tour for part of the day from Utah Beach in the North, down to Omaha Beach and Pont du Hoc and everywhere in between. It's so humbling to think of what happened in these places 70 years and a week to the day we were there. It meant a lot to us to be able to be there.
German Batteries - the huge guns are still in there...

Let's Be Adventurers

Just a lovely afternoon in Battery Park in NYC - stripes were winning that day.

To say the last (almost) 4 months as newlyweds have been an adventure would be an accurate way to describe it.
Every single leg of the big trip from this last month has been an adventure:

Serious tornado warnings in Nebraska the night of my Jazz gig - so the show was cancelled.
Driving all 2100+ miles myself from Utah to New Jersey.
Driving through Midtown Manhattan on a Friday afternoon in my new car to get to the airport. (Shoot me now.)
A really inconvenient strike on the Paris public transportation system.
Driving back from NJ to UT in TORRENTIAL downpours in the midwest with flash flooding all over the place.
(Just to name a few things...)

But, man oh man, Matt and I were basically on a honeymoon for 3 weeks and it really was like something out of a dream. We were with each other non-stop for 3 straight weeks and not only did we not get sick of each other, we had the time of our lives together and loved every moment realizing we'll probably not have an opportunity like that ever again.

So now were getting back to the daily grind, but the adventure doesn't stop!
There are two wedding in my family next week - there will have been 4 weddings in 4 months just in my immediate family. Crazy!

Ending this post kind of awkwardly, but oh well. Ha. More details on our France trip coming up!
